Nutrition and Health Coaching FAQs - Darwin Nutrition

Find answers about nutrition and health coaching, diabetes and cancer support, consultations, confidentiality, costs, bookings and cancellations.

The goal of Darwin Nutrition and Health Coaching is to empower individuals to take control of their health and wellness, make sustainable lifestyle changes, and achieve their personal health goals.

Nutrition and health coaching is a collaborative and personalised form of support that helps you make practical changes to your diet, lifestyle and everyday habits.

Rather than simply giving you another list of rules to follow, I help you understand the factors that may be affecting your health, identify the changes that matter most and create a realistic plan that fits your life.

Coaching can provide guidance, encouragement, accountability and a supportive space in which to work towards your health goals at a manageable pace.

Darwin Nutrition and Health Coaching takes a holistic approach to health and wellness, focusing on not only nutrition and exercise, but also stress management, sleep, and overall self-care. Our coaches work collaboratively with clients to create personalized plans that fit their unique needs and lifestyles.

Coaching may be suitable for you if you:

  • Feel tired, mentally foggy or constantly run down
  • Experience fluctuating energy or regular energy slumps
  • Struggle with sleep, stress or maintaining healthy routines
  • Feel confused by conflicting nutrition advice
  • Want support with weight management or improving your metabolic health
  • Have recently been diagnosed with prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes
  • Are living with or recovering from illness
  • Are affected by cancer and would value practical, compassionate wellbeing support
  • Know you need to make changes but feel unsure where to begin
  • Want healthier habits that are sustainable rather than extreme

You do not need to have a diagnosed health condition to benefit from coaching.

I support clients with a range of nutrition, lifestyle and wellbeing concerns, including low energy, brain fog, poor sleep, stress, weight management, dietary confusion and difficulty maintaining healthy habits.

I also offer dedicated support for people affected by Type 2 diabetes and cancer.

My role is to help you understand your current habits, recognise potential barriers and take practical steps towards improving the areas of your health that are within your control.

My aim is not to hand you a highly restrictive diet or expect you to follow a rigid set of rules.

We will look at what you currently eat, how your eating habits fit around your lifestyle and where realistic improvements could be made. Where appropriate, I may provide practical food ideas, recipes, examples and educational resources.

The focus is on helping you make informed choices and develop habits that you can maintain in real life.

Meal ideas or example plans may be provided where they would be useful, but coaching is about much more than following a temporary meal plan.

We may also explore your energy, sleep, stress, routines, activity levels, working patterns, motivation and the practical challenges that make healthy choices difficult.

The goal is to help you build the knowledge and confidence to make suitable choices for yourself over the longer term.

No. Nutrition and health coaching does not replace advice, diagnosis or treatment from your GP, consultant, dietitian or other qualified healthcare professional.

I do not diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions. Coaching provides educational, practical and behavioural support alongside—not instead of—appropriate medical care.

You should speak to your healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, exercise, medication or treatment plan.

Yes. A diagnosis of prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes can leave you feeling confused, worried or overwhelmed by the amount of information you have been given.

I can help you make sense of your next steps and support you with areas such as:

  • Understanding how everyday choices may influence blood glucose
  • Developing balanced and realistic eating habits
  • Improving routines around movement, sleep and stress
  • Supporting healthy weight management
  • Setting achievable goals
  • Staying motivated and accountable
  • Preparing questions for your healthcare appointments

Coaching does not replace your diabetes care team, and you should never change prescribed medication without speaking to the appropriate healthcare professional.

Yes. Cancer can affect far more than your physical health. It may also affect your confidence, routines, relationships, work and sense of control.

I provide a private and supportive space in which you can talk openly about what feels most difficult and identify small, manageable ways to look after your wellbeing.

This may include support with everyday routines, setting realistic goals, managing competing demands, preparing questions for appointments and focusing on the aspects of your health and lifestyle that remain within your control.

I do not treat cancer or replace your oncology or medical team. Any nutrition or lifestyle changes must remain consistent with the advice provided by the professionals responsible for your treatment.

The initial conversation lasts for up to 30 minutes and gives you an opportunity to tell me what has been happening, where you feel stuck and what you would like to improve.

I will explain how coaching works, answer your questions and help you decide whether my approach feels right for you.

There is no pressure to continue. The purpose of the conversation is to establish whether I am the right person to support you and whether coaching is an appropriate option for your needs.

Your first full session gives us time to explore your current health concerns, routines, lifestyle, eating habits and personal goals in more detail.

We will discuss what you have already tried, what may be getting in your way and which changes are likely to be both helpful and realistic.

Together, we will agree your priorities and identify clear actions that you feel able to put into practice. You will not be expected to change everything at once.

Absolutely not.

Many people find it difficult to look after their health while managing work, family responsibilities, illness, stress or exhaustion. My role is not to criticise you or make you feel guilty.

Coaching starts with understanding your circumstances and finding practical ways forward. You will be met with empathy, honesty and respect.

This depends on your starting point, goals and the level of support you would find helpful.

Some people need a small number of focused sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support as they introduce changes, overcome setbacks and build confidence.

We can discuss the most appropriate option during your free introductory conversation. You will not be encouraged to book more support than you need.

No. Trying to change everything at the same time can quickly become overwhelming and difficult to maintain.

We will identify the areas most relevant to your health and begin with manageable actions. Small, consistent changes can often be more valuable than an ambitious plan that cannot be sustained.

The pace of coaching will be adapted to your needs, circumstances and readiness for change.

No ethical health professional can guarantee a particular result.

Your progress will depend on several factors, including your health, personal circumstances, goals, engagement with the coaching process and ability to implement the agreed changes.

I will provide guidance, education, encouragement and accountability, but you remain responsible for your decisions and actions. Where something falls outside my professional scope, I will encourage you to seek support from an appropriate healthcare professional.

Yes. Your privacy is taken seriously, and the personal and health information you share will be treated confidentially and handled in accordance with the privacy policy.

Information will not be shared with another person without your permission unless there is a legal or professional obligation to do so.

You are welcome to ask how your information will be stored or used before beginning coaching.

Darwin Nutrition and Health Coaching is based in North Yorkshire.

Fees will depend on the type and level of support you choose. Current options and costs can be discussed during your free introductory conversation, allowing you to make an informed decision before committing to anything.

All fees and payment arrangements will be clearly explained before coaching begins.

Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment.

Appointments cancelled with less than the required notice may be subject to a cancellation charge or may be forfeited. Full details are available in the Terms and Conditions.

The first step is to arrange a free, confidential introductory conversation of up to 30 minutes.

This gives us an opportunity to talk about what you are experiencing, what you would like to change and whether nutrition and health coaching is the right form of support for you.

You do not need to have everything worked out before asking for support. We can begin with where you are now and identify one clear, manageable step forward.
